WHO Believes in a Phony Theology? : The Theology of Racism

by Lisa Hussein

GOP Presidential candidate Rick Santorum has postulated that President Obama operates from a “phony theology”.  Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, intimated that President Obama is a Muslim by birth.  It is interesting that all of these “so-called” Christians and Evangelicals are operating from a racist theology.  A theology that goes against what Franklin’s own father has said:

Racial and ethnic hatred is a sin, and we need to label it as such. Jesus told his disciples to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt. 22:39); and in reply to the question, “Who is my neighbor?” He responded with a pointed parable about a good Samaritan, a member of a despis

ed race (Luke 10:25-37). Racism is a sin precisely because it keeps us from obeying God’s command to love our neighbor, and because it has its roots in pride and arrogance.

Christians who harbor racism in their attitudes or actions are not following their Lord at this point, for Christ came to bring reconciliation – reconciliation between us and God, and reconciliation between each other. He came to accept us as we are, whoever we are, “from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Rev. 5:9).

The Bible says to judge a tree by the fruit that it bears.  In other words you may call yourself a Christian all you want, but that doesn’t mean anything.  What do you do?  The Bible reads: “..Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it…”  Rick Santorum, Mr. Devout Christian does not tithe.  (tithe literally means one-tenth”).  Of course this chart does not prove that President Obama nor Mitt Romney necessarily tithe.  However this chart does tell us that they are giving enough to tithe.  Some Christian churches allow congregants to apply a portion of their tithe to any non-profits that are doing work to help others and would also be considered “Kingdom-friendly”.

Franklin Graham, Rick Santorum, Fox News, Newt Gingrich have been using coded racist language throughout this election season.  Rick Santorum painting President Obama as “the other” and a non-Christian with his phony theology statement is indicative of his playing into racist sentiments among his electorate and his lack of true Christian values.
